Camiguin
Island
is said to be an island of born fire since
because it is known for having seven volcanoes in this island. This island is a
pear-shaped one. It has only 5 towns and these are Mambajao, Guinsiliban,
Mahinog, Catarman and Sagay where I stayed during my vacation on April 2012.
Though my province is just a
small place but I assure you that it has lots of scenic spots that you'll
surely appreciate, cultures that you'll treasure and delicacies that you'll
really love.
So let's start exploring the
Camiguin Island...

Camiguin Sunken Cemetery,
a cemetery in which it is sunk under the
sea. It was said that that the sunken land and gravestones can still be seen
when the tide is low. But when Mount Vulcan erupted this whole area sank deeper
to around 20 feet. The large cross was built then on the solidified lava to
mark the site that became the graves of the ancestor of the Camiguin people.
This cemetery is really a breath taking
place. As I went there, I just can't imagine a cemetery beneath the sea.

Guiob Church Ruins,
a church that was ruined due to the devastating
volcanic eruption.From there, you can see the remains of an Old Spanish Church,
ruins of adobe walls, belfry and convent are mute witnesses to wrath of the
nature. This place allows us to witness too a glimpse of the Spanish culture in
this island.
What I really love on this
place is its surrounding which is purely nature by the trees and the green
grasses that surround it.

Camiguin Walkway
is a place where a series of
steps going to Mount Vulcan, an old volcano. Along the way you can see statues
depicting the Stations of the Cross. Local or foreigners visited here for
penitence or just for fun. In order to walk through the steps up to the top, an
environmental fee is paid which is just P5.00. Your one hour hike going to the
top is well worth it.
And definitely it is true
beacuse at the top, I can see a bird's eye view of my province, Camiguin.

Sto. Rosario Church,
a church located in Sagay. I
really love this church because it is very solemn and it its place is
surrounded by designs related on nature. It is simple but a unique century old
church. One of the unique thing that you can see their is their driftwood
chandeliers. The church altar is all Filipino, emphasizing the local's culture.
They used woven bamboo skin and bamboo making feel that you are inside a nipa
hut.
So far, those are the places
that I was able to visit. But there are many places in Camiguin that still I
haven't visited and I am hoping to visit someday. Some of these are the
waterfalls, cold and hot springs.

Ardent Hot Spring,
one of the real highlights in
Camiguin which is located from the tourist beaches in Agoho and Yumbing in the
mountainside of the famous Hibok-Hibok Volcano, which supplies the hot and
crystal clear water.
Katibawasan Falls,
a waterfall which they said is
one of the Camiguin island's gems. A cascades to a rock pool
surrounded by ground orchids, wild ferns, trees and boulders.The falls rushes
down into its green pool that is really refreshing for a good swim. It is
an ideal place to cool off during hot and humid days.
These scenic spots are really amazing and I hope that through
this blog you can see how beautiful the Camiguin Island is :)
